A yin style yoga practice is designed to increase flexibility by targeting the body's connective tissues. This practice uses minimal effort to allows us to bypass the muscles and receive the stretch with our fascia, ligaments and tendons. To accomplish this we find the appropriate shape, meaning a shape where we can release effort, allow gravity to action the pose by becoming still, and holding the pose for a longer amounts of time, typically 3 to 5 minutes. This practice is an excellent antidote to the busyness of modern life because it asks us to choose stillness, to relax the body and mind, and observe the present moment.
